I recently had the privilege of joining a group of researchers, teachers, policy makers and advocates of quality early learning programs at the Gesell Institute’s LEAD Conference in New Haven, Connecticut, which Knowledge Universe sponsored.
The past few weeks have put the education reform movement in the spotlight. First came the official opening of Davis Guggenheim’s documentary “Waiting for Superman” – a heart-wrenching look at the lives of several families awaiting a chance to enroll their children at a charter school of their choice.
I recently returned from Singapore where I had a packed week of visiting centers from several Knowledge Universe brands, including Learning Vision, Pat’s Schoolhouse, and Odyssey, giving lectures to faculty and staff on issues in early childhood education, addressing parents of young children at parent meetings, conducting media interviews, and participating in an inspirational graduation ceremony for students from Learning Capital College who will primarily be entering careers in early childhood education.
Child Care Marketplace, a division of Knowledge Universe, had the pleasure of hosting a table at the National Head Start Association’s 45th Anniversary Dinner on September 22nd. The event offered an opportunity to reflect on the progress that the Head Start program has made since its inception in 1965 when Lyndon B. Johnson first enacted it into law.
